Elysium is a pagan term for paradise, but the term was later used by early Christian writers. Elysium was the setting of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire and the musical The Adding Machine. In John Betjeman’s “The Hedge,” he describes the hedges as keeping the Elysian world alive. However, there are a number of questions surrounding the meaning of the word “Elysium.”
While Emily McLaughlin works as a mechanical engineer by day, she spends most of her time writing. The Elysian Youth Literary Magazine is one such place. As a former Elysian Muse writer, she is also a mentor to aspiring authors. She began writing her debut novel during Camp NaNoWriMo in July 2015. The novel is a YA dark fantasy that will be available for purchase in Spring 2017.
