Important Sources of Information for History Projects
}
There are many different sources of information available to you, but one of the most important is the Internet. You can also use newspapers and magazines to get information about different topics. Books are another great source of information. Depending on your project, you may use both primary and secondary sources. These are all good resources for your research and will help you find the best information for your assignment.
Internet
The origins of the Internet can be traced back to the 1960s, when the US Department of Defense commissioned research into packet switching technology, which enabled computers to share information and time. By the 1980s, the National Science Foundation Network (NSFNET) was serving as the backbone for the Internet. In the following decades, the growth of private funding and the integration of numerous networks made the Internet a reality.
Books
An important source book is a book that provides detailed information on a particular subject or historical event. In addition to articles and other media, books also serve as the primary source for history projects. UH Library’s OneSearch database is your primary tool for identifying books and can help you find specific publishers and titles. You can also look up the creator or author’s name to find other books by that author in the library. OneSearch also allows you to search the WorldCat database for other works by a specific author or publisher.
Newspapers
Newspapers have long been important sources for historians, and their use is growing with time. Marcus M. Wilkerson’s Public Opinion and the Spanish-American War was published in 1932. In 1934, Joseph E. Wisan’s The Cuban Crisis as Reflected in the New York Press drew attention to mass manipulation in the lead-up to World War II. This sparked a new wave of works that treated newspapers as actors in the historical drama.
Magazines
Magazines are one of the most important sources of information for a wide variety of fields. They contain articles on popular topics and images related to current events. However, articles in these publications are generally not as credible as those in scholarly journals. Scholarly articles in journals usually go through a peer-review process and are not as accessible as those in magazines.
Government
Revenue from taxation is a very important source of revenue for the government. This money can be raised through a number of methods. The most important of these is through the sale of goods and services. Other sources of revenue include public debt and borrowings.
Websites
A source website is an excellent way to collect information on a specific subject. Some sites are sponsored by organizations, others are maintained by individuals. Regardless of their type, sources must be carefully scrutinized to ensure that they are reliable.
